Veteran Bollywood actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar, affectionately known as 'Bharat Kumar' for his patriotic roles, passed away at the age of 87 in Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. ​

A Legacy of Patriotic Cinema

Born as Harikrishna Giri Goswami, Manoj Kumar's illustrious career was marked by films that instilled national pride, such as Shaheed (1965), Upkar (1967), and Purab Aur Paschim (1970). His portrayal of selfless, idealistic characters earned him the moniker 'Bharat Kumar'. ​

Tributes Pour In

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, stating, "Deeply saddened by the passing of legendary actor and filmmaker Shri Manoj Kumar Ji. He was an icon of Indian cinema, who was particularly remembered for his patriotic zeal, which was also reflected in his films." ​ News on Air

Actor Akshay Kumar also paid tribute, noting, "I grew up learning from him that there's no emotion like love and pride for our country." ​

Final Rites

Manoj Kumar's son, Kunal Goswami, confirmed that the last rites will be performed tomorrow at 11 am at Pawan Hans in Vile Parle. ​
